At Vast Studios, I was a game designer with various responsibilities on a handful of casual titles. Each project was in the Hidden Object / Puzzle / Adventure genre and published through Big Fish Games.

My duties included narrative design in conceptual, pre-production and production phases, mechanics, level/item, and puzzle design, document creation & management (Concept Proposal, Game Design Document, Asset List Spreadsheet, Level Map Flowcharts), testing (both functionality and playability), market research, a little bit of audio design, and working alongside producers at Big Fish Games and a highly skilled internal team of programmers, artists, animators, and designers.

2011 - Cards And Then You Platform

CATYP Screenshot

Cards And Then You Platform was created by a 3-day, 2-man partnership for TOJam 6. There are two phases to CATYP: Cards & Platforming. The level begins with card selection, where the player can choose a hand of up to 5 actions. When the platforming begins, each action can only be used once, and only well-planned clicks can get you to the goal.

I was the designer of the actions, the art (sorry) and all levels except the twentieth.

2011 - Colorium

Colorium was a submission for UOIT's 24 hour game jam, where the theme was 'spectrum'. Colorium is about four different 'action states', each representing a common verb such as jump, run, crouch, and changing between these to traverse a level. Each action state is colour-coded, and switching between states changes which platforms are visible and solid.

I was responsible for developing, testing and balancing the mechanics, and creating all the levels within Unity 3.

2010 - B.E.R.T. (Bank Employee Robbery Training)

BERT Screenshot

B.E.R.T. is a prototype 'serious game' meant to teach bank employees techniques and procedures for dealing with a high-stress bank robbery situation through the interaction and feedback of a virtual reality simulation.

I designed the first person user interface and the game flow alongside my group members. I was responsible for most of the dialogue writing and recording, as well as performing the player character's voice. I also implemented some animations and scripted events.

Disclaimer: This program was created by students with no formal training as bank employees. The procedures present in this simulation are not intended to actually be used as life-saving measures.

2010 - Bullet Hell

Bullet Hell is a simple game of survival, where the player has abilities to defend, but none for retaliation. The objective is to last for as long as possible by dodging bullets and timing shield use.

Bullet Hell was a submission for UOIT's first game jam (18 hours). I created the concept and all of the mechanics, as well as implemented all of them with Game Maker's GUI.

2008 - The World Hates Jack

The World Hates Jack Screenshot

The World Hates Jack is an exploration of the man-versus-environment conflict. The player takes the role of the world trying to prevent a man from reaching his wife after a hard day's work. Place obstacles and control the weather to affect Jack's mood - measured by happiness (), motivation (speed) and temptation (to do things he normally wouldn't do) - as he trudges home.

I created the springboard concept, and most of the game's mechanics. I was the lead programmer on this project, implementing everything but the soundtrack and sound effects in Torque Game Builder and Torsion.

2007 - JB-1:Boilerpowered

Boilerpowered was a narrative design document written in a non-linear script format by myself and three other students. I was responsible for descriptions of assets, cinematics, characters, and some dialogue.
